Right Hand Rings

July 15th, 2010 No comments

Single women like to wear them to show their independence and importance in society, while married women wear them to show that they are not just a wife and mother.

Women began wearing rings on the right hand back in the sixteenth century. The rich and famous women would wear and still wear big elaborate diamonds to show off their social status. Usually, these rings are worn on the right ring finger but they can also be worn on the index finger. There are even thumb rings and pinkie rings that some women love to wear.

The most popular right hand rings are made with diamonds but other stones that are also popular are emeralds, rubies, topaz, and amethyst. Usually, when coming from a boyfriend or husband, girls prefer diamonds because as everybody knows, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Some diamond rings are made with clusters of small stones which are very stunning. Others may have designs such as hearts or swirls of separate stones that are very lovely. There are some beautiful blue topaz and sapphire rings that are simply gorgeous.

When purchasing rings for the right hand, there are many different styles to choose from. You can show off your personality and independence with bold, contemporary styles or you can choose a more soft elegant style. Each different style of ring can have a different meaning. Choose what best fits your style.

In the age we live in, you don’t have to wait for that special occasion like a romantic evening or a fancy party to wear your rings. You can wear them to work, when you go shopping, or just whenever the mood strikes you. Rings, especially, those you wear on the right hand, can be a way of defining your personality or just help you to be more expressive.

When it comes to purchasing rings, you can go all out and find those that range in the thousands of dollars, or you can be more conservative and just spend a few hundred dollars. It’s all up to you and your pocketbook, of course. There are some absolutely gorgeous rings like Kayla’s Fancy CZ Sapphire Blue ring that is less than $100 but unless you are a gemologist, you would not know that it was only that much. Only your jeweler knows for sure.

Heart Jewelry

July 14th, 2010 No comments

Real diamonds could be the most desirable of precious stones and diamond pendants are second only to diamond engagement rings in the popularity stakes. The heart diamond pendant is very much in vogue right now. With this style, the diamonds usually are not by themselves heart shaped but the gold or silver heart pendant is set with a single larger sized or numerous small sparkling gemstones. If cost is a concern you can achieve a similarly impressive effect with a silver heart shaped pendant adorned with created diamonds.

Vintage jewelry can be an outstanding investment and a piece of vintage heart jewelry is a superb gift for somebody special. At present, the cost of gold has reached an all-time high which has increased sales of vintage and antique gold jewelry as it can certainly offer you better value for money. The price tag on used gold jewelry might be as much as a third cheaper than a comparable item brand-new. Plus an additional benefit could be that the level of quality of an antique jewelry item is frequently noticeably better than its modern day counterpart. However, the same does not automatically apply to gemstone jewelry as modern diamond cutting methods are a long way advanced from what was used a century in the past.

One antique heart shaped item which is still incredibly fashionable today is the “Claddagh” ring. This ring can first be found in Ireland in the 17th century: it comprises a pair of hands holding a heart, and topped with a crown. It means “in love and friendship let us reign.” The ring can be used as an engagement or wedding ring and it can now also symbolize accord, or to show Irish ancestry, or simply because it makes an attractive item of jewelry.

Finally, it is important to note that gorgeous items of heart shaped jewelry may be worn by all women and they also don’t have to be costly. Individual, hand made examples of sterling silver jewelry featuring heart motifs can be an easily affordable replacement for gold and gemstones. Pretty heart design rings in silver can be bought for an unexpectedly low cost, particularly if you are happy to invest in pre-owned jewelry. Web based auction sites are a great place to get incredible jewelry buys and you really are guaranteed to have the heart bracelet, locket or pendant you fantasize about!

Watch Shopping Guide

July 13th, 2010 No comments

Watches are further classified into smaller categories based on their functions or complications. Examples of popular complications are chronograph, perpetual calendar, and moon phase.

What is popular now?

Currently, chronograph watches, diamond watches, dive watches, and watches with large face are some of most popular watches available on the market. Chronograph watches are watches with a stop watch feature built in. Most people buy chronograph watches for the look, few actually use the function. Diamonds can really add some sparkles to watches. Diamond is one of the most popular precious stones, so it is no surprise that diamond watches are popular. Dive watches are popular because they are often rugged looking and convey a sense of durability, not to mention the fact that they have high water resistance. Large face watches are popular partly because many celebrities are wearing them and also because it is easier to tell time with them.

What to look for?

Once you determine whether you want a quartz watch or a mechanical watch and the kind of complications you want it to have, it is time to look at some materials.

Case materials:

Popular watch materials for watch cases are stainless steel and titanium. Stainless steel and titanium are good because and they are durable. Titanium is lighter than stainless steel, but much stronger. However, it has a duller look compares to stainless steel. Titanium tends to be a little more expensive than stainless steel.

Crystal materials:

Sapphire crystals and mineral crystals are recommended for most watches. Sapphire crystal is much harder than mineral crystal and is a lot more scratch resistant than mineral crystal. They are obviously more expensive than mineral crystals. Materials to avoid are glass and acrylic. They are found in many low end watches.

Watch band materials:

There are a wide variety of watch band materials ranging from stainless steel to eel skin. Which material works best for your watch is determined by your taste and your intended use for that watch. If you are active and will be getting the watch wet often, then you will want to go with either a metal bracelet of some sort or a rubber strap as they are easy to clean and maintain. It is not recommended for any type of leather strap to be submerged in water as it can deteriorate the quality of the band.

Different Watch Band Materials

July 12th, 2010 No comments

There are a variety of watch band materials. Generally speaking, there are four categories, which are metal, leather, textile and plastic. And each category has their advantages and disadvantages.

Metals are the most endurable materials for watch bands. Such metals as stainless steel, Titanium, white and yellow gold are common metals for watch brands. They are not only long lasting in looks but also in functions. And because they are also more expensive and water-resistant than other materials, most of high-end watches prefer metal brands. But on the other hand, because of the high price of metal brand, it is less affordable. And because of the nature of metal, the metal bands are heavy, may hurt the wearer’s skin and have very limited color options.

Different kinds of leathers can be used in watch bands, such as cowhide or calf-leather, sheep skin, or crocodile skin and so on. The leather bands can be very stylish, colorful and dressy, offering a much wider design options than the metal ones. So leathers are favored by many fashion designers. And their prices vary, depending on the leather quality and the design, so that they can meet the needs of a wide range of costumers. But, leathers are vulnerable to water and other damages and they are easy to wear out, therefore they need extra care.

Textile is also commonly used watch band materials, including fabric, cloth, and nylon. Their main advantages are light and comfortable to wear, inexpensive to afford, easy to adjust, and providing more variable colors and textures. On the other hand, their biggest weakness is not durable at all, very quick to wear out and they are not resistant to water as well. So textile are usually applied in some lower end products.

Plastic and rubber are very popular watch brand material too. They are usually used for children’s watches and sport watches, because they are easy to keep, and they have much better weather and water resistance than the textile ones. In addition, they also have almost all the merits of the textile bands, except not as comfortable as textile brands. However, they can not endure chemical or pressure, are far less lasting than the metal ones.
