3 Natural Tips to Overcome a Panic Attack

August 17th, 2010 No comments

I understand how you feel because I used to have panic attacks that would spring up without notice leaving me extremely frightened. But I learned how to defeat them and so will you if you follow my lead…

And we aren’t alone. Did you know, for instance, that nearly 33% of Americans have at least one panic attack, with many having more? And that nearly 1 in every 75 people throughout the world will have an attack during their lifetime? So we definitely aren’t alone!

Now, if that many people are having panic attacks around us, how come we aren’t aware of it? This is most probably because there seems to be a bit of a stigma about having panic attacks. It’s looked upon as some sort of ‘weakness’ or ‘mental’ instability, so sufferers just suffer in silence.

I’m here to tell you not to. I’m not ashamed to speak about it, and neither should you. Panic (or anxiety) attacks is just a condition that can be treated like any other condition or ailment…

Now most treatments consist of prescribed drugs like tranquilizers, antidepressants and beta-blockers. But they tend to treat your symptoms, not the underlying cause(s). And, let’s be honest here, who wants to go around in a daze whilst taking them, plus, who wants to suffer those horrible side effects?

That’s why more and more people like you and me are turning to natural remedies to help stop their anxiety attacks.

Now, there are many things you can do, but I have listed just 3 here that I believe to be the top 3 things that you can do during an attack, which if they don’t actually stop it in its tracks, will certainly make the symptoms less intense and the time period much shorter…

(1) At the onset of an attack repeat to yourself that you know what it is, that it can’t harm you, you aren’t about to die, and, it will soon pass. It’s a medical fact that anxiety attacks cannot harm you! Never forget that!

(2) Start to get your breathing back to normal as fast as possible. During an attack, you hyperventilate, which upsets the important oxygen / carbon dioxide ratio in your body. One of the fastest ways is to re-breath into a paper bag. Hint: why don’t you carry one around with you?

(3) If you just focus on your symptoms during a panic attack, you’ll only make things worse, because they are so frightening. Focus hard on things you see around you, this is really important.

Now, there are more techniques, but I found that these 3 are the most effective, certainly at reducing the length of time and intensity of a panic attack.

Use a Shaving Brush Properly

August 15th, 2010 No comments

To men, the shaving brush is the equivalent of a blush-on brush in women’s make up kits. Shaving brushes are sometimes called badger brushes, too. Some prefer not to use them when shaving with either men’s electric shavers or just the conventional razors. But, to others, they are a necessity.

The badger brush allows them to apply the shaving cream or shaving soap easily. Lathering the cream using the badger brush feels smoother and richer. It is not messy at the same time, so no cream is put to waste and you need not wash your hands after.

When you use a shaving brush, it exfoliates and massages your face slightly when applying the cream. The best thing about using this is that is prepares your face for a smooth shave–the one where you don’t get to have scars. These brushes soften the hair strands and readily lift them, making them easier to remove.

Shaving brushes come in different sizes and are made of different materials. They are basically composed of two main parts, the hair or the bristles and the handle. Hair strands are fashioned from synthetic materials like nylon, horse-tail hair (like the one used in violin bows), boar-hair (which is the most commonly used), and badger hair from badgers (which are the pricey ones). Handles can be made out of almost any material such as plastic, porcelain, ivory, metal, wood, silver, gold, ceramic, or even glass. The boar-hair and plastic handle combination is the most famous and cheapest type in the market.

To have a superior shave and sleek look, dip the hair of the brush into a bowl of hot water to moisten it aptly. This will allow your brush to absorb water and hold the shaving cream well. Then, shake off the excess water and make sure that it does not hold too much of it.

Immerse it into the shaving cream and get the desired amount. Apply the cream to your face in circular motion. The bristles will massage and exfoliate the skin. Make sure to lather and spread the cream evenly over your face.

After this, let your razor do the trick and start shaving away with your conventional or electric shaver. Wash off the remaining cream from your face and as well as from the brush thoroughly. Keep it clean and shaving cream-free after using. Tap it on a dry towel or air-dry it to avoid germs and unpleasant smells to breed in the bristles. Store it properly to assure of long lasting functionality.

While using shaving creams and shaving brushes is purely a personal choice when using men’s electric shavers, there’s no harm in using them either, since such shavers usually allow both dry and wet shaving.

Survey Finds Women Would Rather Lose Weight

August 13th, 2010 No comments

Some people work hard for a promotion while others give up chances of better jobs and now sex even, just for not gaining 10 pounds.

Nearly 50 percent of American women and a quarter of men think being skinny is better than having sex — saying they would give up doing the deed this summer in exchange for not gaining 10 pounds, according to a new survey.

The survey, conducted by Nutrisystem, revealed that people would give up an array of pleasures — including sex — in order not to pack on the pounds.

For example, the survey found that despite the economic recession, many Americans would pass up a promotion at work for the chance to drop 10 to 20 pounds.

Many would also give up sex and get rid of their cell phones and TV sets in order to have a flat tummy.

“The fact of the matter is, America is obsessed with dieting and weight loss, but the majority of Americans are not eating healthier or getting thinner,” said Joe Redling, chairman and CEO of Nutrisystem, Inc.

The survey found:

— 52 percent of women would take a summer without sex over gaining 10 pounds; a quarter of American men (25 percent) said they would make the same sacrifice.

— 25 percent would prefer to shed 10 to 20 pounds this summer than get promoted at work.

— 73 percent would be willing to give up their cell phones, TV or computers in exchange for a flatter tummy this summer.

The survey, which was released Thursday, also found that 29 percent of Americans have tried dieting over the past eleven months and that 51 percent have dieted within the past two years.

Many Americans “are willing to make extreme sacrifices to lose weight, but they eventually give up on their goals because they don’t know how to reach them,” said Dr. Bruce Daggy, nutritional biochemist and vice president of research and development at Nutrisystem, Inc.

“This research helps shed light on some of the root causes of our nation’s struggle to achieve a healthy diet and lifestyle.”

The survey took place between April 10 and April 21 among 1,001 adults nationwide age 18 and older.

Indigestion Leads to Acne

August 12th, 2010 No comments

The common causes  of acne are: unhygienic body conditions, hormonal changes, over production of oil from the skin oil glands, over accumulation of dead skin cell, over consumption of processed foods, excessive eating, excessive consumption of oily and fried food, stress, environmental factors and lack of exercise.

But do you know that indigestion can worsen or be the primary cause of acne? To explain the relationship more clearly, let us shed more light on the working of our digestive system.

Our stomach accommodates all the food that we eat together with the various acids, enzymes and other things that aid digestion. The food that is in digestion process moves from the stomach and goes to the pancreas then travels down through small and large intestine and together to thereafter to the anus. By this process, all the glands assist in the process of digestion through their enzymes to complete the digestion process.

Indigestion happens when any of those enzymes is unable to perform or sometimes absent in the body. For example, adequate hydrochloric acid must be presence for proper food digestion to take place. If the body should lack hydrochloric acid, absorption of many important minerals will be difficult. Lack of important minerals in the body weakens the immune system. And as the immune system gets weakens, the capacity to combat bacteria effectively reduces which itself is a major cause of acne.

When the food that is not properly digested get to the pancreas, the enzymes in the pancreas produced an increase in enzymatic activity. And if pancreas lacks enzymes content, the food will stay in the stomach and as time goes on it will start to turn into toxins. These toxins are then release throughout the blood and invariably lead to blood impurity. Blood impurity is one the factors leading to acne on the body.

However, the only simple and natural way to prevent acne is to eat healthy food, balance diet and nutritious meal. The food that we eat should not be difficult to digest and should contain lots of fibers and roughage. Also, we distance ourselves from oily food as much as possible. We should try to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables regularly. Drinking a lot of water is also good. Water is a detoxification and a good therapy in the fight against acne. Water carries a lot of toxins produced during the process of digestion and help in emptying our bowels.

The Use of Natural Remedies

August 12th, 2010 No comments

Natural remedies have been used traditionally for the cure of many ailments for thousands of years. But as chemists began to develop synthetic equivalents of plant constituents doctors began to experiment with drugs.

The problem was that people began to realize that drugs do not cure, they only stop a reaction and they have unwanted side effects. So much so in some cases that there has been a big swing back to more natural remedies to treat numerous health problems and conditions.

If you walk into any health food store you will find many products that can offer relief or assistance with common medical conditions. There are natural remedies to treat headaches, arthritis, insomnia, eczema, acne, heartburn, hemorrhoids and irritable bowel. These are just a few of the many conditions that natural remedies can effectively cure.

The importance of vitamins and minerals for optimum health have long been noted by natural health practitioners and medical professionals. People are beginning to see once again the benefits of using Mother Natures plants as natural remedies instead of man made chemicals.

The use of vitamin and mineral supplements is a natural continuation of a healthy eating plan to gain tip top health. The goal of a healthy lifestyle can be achieved by using supplements that are made from plants and herbs. The body then does not become dependent on chemicals that are not naturally occurring in the body.

The body can very often conquer health problems through the use of natural substances that orthodox medicine has not been able to through the use of prescription drugs.

A daily regime of medication is usually needed for the orthodox treatment of conditions such as arthritis and asthma. In many cases the medication must be taken for months if not years. The side effects of drugs always overshadow the benefits they bring.

It’s not uncommon for a second medication to be given to combat the side effects of the first.Drugs often have a list of side-effects that include stomach bleeding, skin rashes, constipation and heart problems.

By using natural remedies there won’t be any dependence on prescription drugs that have proven negative side-effects.Using something found in nature and proven to cure your ailments by herbalists and natural healers for thousands of years is a logical and sensible choice for your health challenges.
