What is a Clinic?

October 13th, 2011

Accroding to Wiki, the word “Clinic” derives from “the Greek klinein meaning to slope, lean or recline. Hence kline is a couch or bed, klinikos is sloping or reclining and Latin is clinicus. An early use of the word clinic was, ‘one who receives baptism on a sick bed’”.

A clinic is also called outpatient clinic or ambulatory care clinic. It is a health care facility that is mainly dedicated to the care of outpatients.

There are basically two types of clinics, privately operated and publicly managed and funded. Those clinics usually cover the primary health care needs of populations in local communities.

Though the function of clinics differs from country to country, of which the primarily function is a place for people with injuries or illnesses to come and be seen by triage nurse or other health worker.
